As an improvising electric guitarist, I have long been interested in writing music that brings the instrument into a chamber music setting. Distractions grew out of that interest, combining through-composed chamber writing with an improvised solo for the guitarist. The opening theme is playful and energetic, propelled by a buoyant march-like pulse while its angular theme keeps the music slightly off balance. In contrast, the middle section takes on a more mischievous and mysterious character before the opening material returns.
