Crevices was written for A Road Less Travelled, a concert presented by Spectrum Music. Conceived as a "duet of duets," the work explores the relationship between two flutes and two guitars. It opens with a dialogue between the flutes, whose contrasting musical personalities create a conversation between introspection and exuberance. The guitars eventually enter the discussion before taking over with a dialogue of their own. As the piece unfolds, the two pairings merge into a single ensemble, culminating in a final exchange between the flutes and guitars that echoes the opening conversation while transforming it into a dialogue between the two instrumental families.
