Choral (text by Graham Campbell)
"Sweep the Sky" is inspired by one of my earliest childhood memories. It was performed by Musicata: Hamilton's Voices, alongside Chris Pruden (piano), Jesse Dietschi (bass), and Bryan Allan (percussion), as part of Spectrum Music's 2017-2018 season.
Sweep the sky
When will daydreams rise?
Eye the dark
Where will nightmares lie?
The burning sun feels closer than the air
And every breath is drawn from a straw
The sycamores reach halfway to the sky
But fear is where their shadows fall
A turning key gives a glimpse inside
Courage and cold feet
A loaded heart afraid of empty ground
Can climb a tree and sleep in the clouds
Between the walls an echo fills the air
And mysteries linger everywhere
An open door reveals a vacancy
With no place to sleep
Sweep the sky
When will daydreams rise?
Eye the dark
Where will nightmares lie?
Turn the key
Courage and cold feet
Empty ground
With no place to sleep
